Henry Cavill will be Superman in new movie

Henry Cavill, a British actor whose credits include the Showtime series The Tudors, the 2007 fantasy film Stardust and the coming adventure Immortals, will play Superman and his secret identity, Clark Kent, in a film directed by Zack Snyder Warner Brothers.

In a statement, Mr. Snyder, whose previous films include the comic-book adaptations 300 and Watchmen, said, “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen.” He added that Mr. Cavill was “the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”

Mr. Snyder’s film is planned for a December 2012 release, with a screenplay written by David S. Goyer (Batman Begins) based on a story created by Mr. Goyer and Christopher Nolan, the writer and director of Inception.

Cavill is a great choice… his work is The Tudors was substantial, even though it wasn’t scene-stealing. You can see potential, and he has the masculinity and ‘unknown’ quality that you need for Superman.
