Adam Lambert has become the first openly gay artist to have a #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart! Other gay performers such as Elton John and George Michael have hit #1, but only before they came out, and they haven't managed that honor since. Lambert's second studio album, Trespassing , debuted at the top with 77,000 albums sold according to Nielsen SoundScan. However, Trespassing  is also the smallest sum at No. 1 on the chart since the tally dated Aug. 20, 2011, when Adele's 21 sold 76,000 in its 12th nonconsecutive week atop the list. Trespassing has the smallest sales week for a No. 1 debut since Amos Lee's Mission Bell started in the penthouse with 40,000 on the Feb. 12, 2011 chart. This also marks the first time that one American Idol replaces another at No. 1. Lambert's arrival bumps last week's leader, Carrie Underwood's Blown Away , down to No. 3 (54,000; down 55%). Towleroad reports : The UK's Sonisphere festival has been canceled, taking with it Adam Lambert's planned performance as frontman for Queen . The promoters write : Putting the festival together in what is proving to be a very challenging year was more difficult than we anticipated and we have spent the last few months fighting hard to keep Sonisphere in the calendar. Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that we would be unable to run the festival to a standard that both the artists and that Sonisphere’s audience would rightly expect. Tweeted Lambert : "While I'm sad that the Sonisphere festival has been cancelled, I'm hopeful that Queen and I will share a stage again someday in the future." It’s official: Adam Lambert will perform with Queen at the Sonisphere festival this summer in England, and Brian May says Freddie Mercury would approve. On the Red Carpet reports that Lambert has confirmed he will appear with May, the guitarist for the flamboyant 1970s–’80s rock group, and Roger Taylor, its drummer, on the second day of the festival at Knebworth Park in Stevenage, north of London, as a U.K. tabloid had reported earlier this month. Late Monday, Lambert tweeted, “As many suspected, I can finally confirm: I have been invited by Queen to sing one very special concert! Sonisphere at Knebworth July 7th! Sorry to be coy about the details the past few weeks, but I made a promise to keep it under wraps as best I could. Jerry Curl (via The Daily Star) reported last week that Adam Lambert would join Queen for a performance at the Sonisphere Festival in July. "The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some f***ing great songs," he reportedly said. "It's to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of." However, Lambert himself appeared to dismiss the remarks on his Twitter page on Friday evening. "Oooh them clever reporters takin my quotes outta context.... AOL Music reports : Adam Lambert has confirmed that he's set to join legendary rock band Queen as the groups new frontman. Rumors of Lambert's candidacy first started circulating back in December when drummer Roger Taylor sung the American Idol star's praises in an interview with Billboard. "He has grown into a really great performer with an astonishing voice with a range that's great. We would like to work with him again. There's nothing signed just yet but we're talking about live dates. It could be very exciting." Lambert teamed up with the rockers for a live performance on the American Idol Season 8 finale and again at the 2011 MTV EMAs. Towleroad reports : Adam Lambert has been arrested and jailed in Finland after a fight with his Finnish boyfriend Sauli Koskinen outside a gay bar in Helsinki. According to the tabloid Ilta - Sanomat : Lambert and Koskinen got into a heated fight between each other when they were partying in Helsinki. Lambert and Koskinen were taken into jail. They will be questioned during this morning after they have sobered up. We have to wait until that, police officer Petri Juvonen told the Finnish newspaper Ilta - Sanomat . Both men will be held in custody during interrogations. After questioning Adam Lambert and Sauli Koskinen will be released. The reason of the quarrel between the two lovers has not yet been confirmed. According to the police possible injuries are not severe. Adam Lambert offers some insight into his upcoming dance-oriented album Trespassing in a new Rolling Stone interview . This year, Lambert assembled hitmakers including Pharrell Williams, Dr. Luke and "Teenage Dream" co-writer Bonnie McKee to replace his 2009 debut's glam pop with a club-ready sound inspired by classic disco, Nineties electronica and Skrillex-y dubstep. He even got Chic's Nile Rodgers to play on "Shady," a sexy cut that Lambert describes as "Nine Inch Nails meets Saturday Night Fever." The Hollywood Reporter reports : Adam Lambert fans are celebrating as the American Idol alum promised and dutifully revealed the title of his long awaited second album and its first single. It all went down on Twitter : Trespassing is the name of the full-length album. A song of the same name, which Lambert worked on with Pharrell Williams, is also on the album. The first single, co-written by Dr. Luke, Claude Kelly, Ammo, and Cirkut is called “Better Than I Know Myself.” Minutes after posting the tweet to his 1.2 million followers, the hash tag #BETTERTHANIKNOWMYSELF was trending on the social media site. Other writers and musicians who worked on the album include songwriters Ryan Tedder and Evan Bogart and Chic founder and veteran producer Nile Rodgers, although it has yet to be revealed which songs made the final track listing. The Advocate caught up with Adam Lambert as he's preparing the follow-up album to his 2009 debut, For Your Entertainment ; a project he's been writing and recording for the last five months. He’s going slow with the sophomore release. “It takes time to get it right,” he says. “I don’t know how other artists do it, but for this project I’m adopting the mentality of just keep writing and keep recording as much as possible, and then when we know that we’re ready to decide which tracks are going to be on the album, we’ll look at everything and narrow it down.” There’s a different pressure with a second album, especially with the helpful hype of the TV juggernaut a full two years behind him. “But people recognize me, people know who I am, so hopefully that’ll help. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) honored Adam Lambert and his mother last night at the LA Event in Beverly Hills, CA. This past June, Leila Lambert and Betty DeGeneres, the mothers of celebrities Adam and Ellen, marched side-by-side at the West Hollywood Gay Pride Parade while wearing matching red PFLAG t-shirts. In fact, Adam was so proud of his mother that he tweeted a pick of the two saying “Look how sweet! My beautiful mother Leila marching in the Gay Pride Parade for PFLAG (that’s Ellen’s mom to the left!).” Adam was recently honored by Equality California at their Equality Awards.
