Regarding the Liza Minnelli show in Hollywood

There was once a time in my life when I believed that Liza Minnelli would die before I got to see her in concert. That time was basically all of the 90's and early 00's. It was during that time that she suffered through hip replacements, brain encephalitis, and a marriage to David Gest-- all of which were pretty equally traumatic. The point is, she and I were a bit touch-and-go there for a while. She eventually sailed through her surgeries, conquered the viral encephalitis which most doctor's thought was going to be her undoing, and beat/divorced David Gest. None of which, of course, was surprising to those who love Liza because she's made a career out of being the comeback kid. She is, after all, Judy's daughter. So it is with great pride and a little boasting that I admit to having seen Liza Minnelli in concert twice now. A letter of reintroduction

Dear reader, They say that old habits die hard. They also say that "Die Hard" was a great movie. I don't know who they are exactly so I can't confirm either statement, but I do know a thing or two about loving what you do. Unfortunately, I happen to know a little bit more about not-doing what you love and hating that. I love to write but it's hard to consider yourself a writer if you don't actually write anything. (I hope you read the bit about being a writer in a deeply exaggerated whisper like I did.) It's not for lack of valid and important opinions on things. Ask anyone I know or date, I have an opinion on almost everything. Some of them are thoughtful and informed opinions on matters of the day. A few others are just speculations or a regurgitation of whatever Cokie Roberts taught me on NPR that Monday morning.
