Oscar-qualifying songs include Muppets, leave out Madonna

The Academy has released a short list of film songs that are in contention for Oscar nomination consideration, according to New York Magazine’s Vulture.

Notably absent from the list is Madonna’s “Masterpiece,” from her film W.E. Turns out Madge’s song sounds too far into the movie’s closing credits to qualify for a nomination in the category.

Celebs who did make the cut include Zooey Deschanel (who sings a Winnie the Pooh tune), Mary J. Blige (“The Living Proof” is featured in The Help), and Glenn Close (the actress co-wrote “Lay Your Head Down” for Albert Nobbs).

Three songs from The Muppets - “Life's a Happy Song,” “Man or Muppet,” and “Pictures in My Head” - are included on the list of 39 tunes.

As for which of the songs will be performed on the Academy Awards telecast, we’ll just have to wait until February 26. For the full list of eligible songs, visit Oscars.org.

Ric Alonso resigns from pageant association after porn revelation

Kevin Hogan wasn't the only person this week ambushed out of a job for his participation in the gay adult film industry. FOX News reports : Ric Alonso and his partner of 21 years, Ernie Koneck, have both been both prominent power players in the Southern California Scholarship Association — an incorporated not-for-profit association — which produces the Miss Hollywood pageant, an official preliminary to Miss California, and a feeder to Miss America. Alonso is listed as the first “major sponsor” for 2011 scholarship donations, while partner Koneck has been the pageantry point of contact and is featured in photographs alongside the smiling young sashed pageant contestants.
