Newborn dropped off at fire station

NBC Miami reports: Authorities say firefighters found an infant with her umbilical cord still attached outside their South Florida fire station.

Coral Springs Fire Department spokesman Michael Moser says firefighters heard a noise outside about 9:20 p.m. Monday.

They initially thought it was either a cat or the sound of an infant over a cell phone. They found the baby outside, wrapped in t-shirts.

Firefighter James Gochenour says the crew used an obstetrics kit to detach the cord.

The baby was taken to Northwest Medical Center, in good condition. Florida's Safe Haven Law allows parents to drop off a newborn at a hospital or fire station without fear of prosecution. (Thank goodness!)

Moser says Safe Haven for Newborns will take care of the child's placement.
