New York marriage equality reactions



--> After Friday night's vote, New York state doubled the number of Americans living in a state with marriage equality.

--> Less than an hour after the New York legislature passed a marriage equality bill, the Empire State Building had "gone rainbow."

-->The White House responds: “The president has long believed that gay and lesbian couples deserve the same rights and legal protections as straight couples. That’s why he has called for repeal of the so-called ‘Defense of Marriage Act’ and determined that his administration would no longer defend the constitutionality of DOMA in the courts. The states should determine for themselves how best to uphold the rights of their own citizens. The process in New York worked just as it should.”

--> Lady Gaga tweeted after the vote: "I can't stop crying. We did it kids."

--> Cyndi Lauper: I have never be prouder to be a lifelong New Yorker than I am today with the passage of marriage equality."

Ric Alonso resigns from pageant association after porn revelation

Kevin Hogan wasn't the only person this week ambushed out of a job for his participation in the gay adult film industry. FOX News reports : Ric Alonso and his partner of 21 years, Ernie Koneck, have both been both prominent power players in the Southern California Scholarship Association — an incorporated not-for-profit association — which produces the Miss Hollywood pageant, an official preliminary to Miss California, and a feeder to Miss America. Alonso is listed as the first “major sponsor” for 2011 scholarship donations, while partner Koneck has been the pageantry point of contact and is featured in photographs alongside the smiling young sashed pageant contestants. On Tuesday, Alonso was exposed by RadarOnline as adult film actor and producer "Jake Cruise".
