Concert Association of Florida expected to go under

The Concert Association of Florida, which has brought the biggest names in classical music and dance to South Florida for nearly four decades, is expected to cease operations this week, buckling under the weight of plummeting ticket sales and donations.

Robert Hudson, chairman of the board for the Concert Association, has yet to announce plans for the group, but said that the organization is considering all options to cope with a drastic downturn in support, including filing for bankruptcy.

''One of our chief goals is to try and protect the ticket holders and make sure the shows go on or get refunded if they don't,'' Hudson said this week.

The Concert Association has 18 performances scheduled through April 19 -- seven at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, one at downtown Miami's Gusman Center, six at the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater, three at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and one at Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale.

While not all of the Concert Association's presentations will continue as planned, many will, particularly classical music concerts scheduled for Miami's Arsht Center and Fort Lauderdale's Broward Center and Parker Playhouse.
