Going forward, the network will air '90s reruns from 12 a.m. EST to 4 a.m. ET from Monday to Sunday in a block called The 90s Are All That . Shows include Doug , The Adventures of Pete & Pete , All That , Clarissa Explains it All , Double Dare , The Ren & Stimpy Show and Salute Your Shorts . In announcing the decision to rebroadcast the shows, Keith Dawkins, senior VP and general manager of TeenNick, said earlier: "At the time, we were completely devoted to that audience ages 9, 10, and 11. Funeral is held for Amy Winehouse

Image
ArtsBeat reports : Amy Winehouse was mourned by family members and colleagues from the music industry at a private funeral in London today, The Associated Press reported . The ceremony for Ms. Winehouse, who died on Saturday at age 27, was held at Edgwarebury Cemetery in the north of the city. The service included English and Hebrew prayers, a eulogy given by the singer’s father, Mitch, and a rendition of Carole King’s “So Far Away,” which was one of Ms. Winehouse’s favorite songs. Chris Goodman, a spokesman for the Winehouse family, told The A.P.: “Mitch was funny, he told some great stories from childhood about how headstrong she was, and clearly the family and friends recognized the stories and laughed along. He stressed so many times she was happier now than she had ever been and he spoke about her boyfriend and paid tribute to a lot of people in her life.” Mark Ronson, who produced Ms. Winehouse’s breakthrough 2006 album, Back to Black , the last released before her death, was amo...

Time travel is impossible, scientists say

Image
Discovery News reports that scientists in Hong Kong have ruled out the possibility of time travel by proving that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light. Which is funny, because "faster than the speed of light" is exactly how quickly our dreams were just crushed. According to Discovery : "The possibility of time travel was raised 10 years ago when scientists discovered superluminal — or faster-than-light — propagation of optical pulses in some specific medium, the team said. It was later found to be a visual effect, but researchers thought it might still be possible for a single photon to exceed light speed." But thanks to one particularly determined professor, Du Shengwang, the research team at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology has proved that particular theory (or, rather, hope) wrong. They say their research, which was published in the journal Physical Review Letters, shows that even single photons--the smallest particle of light — tr...

First glimpse of Apple’s plans for Grand Central Terminal

Image
Grand Central Terminal’s iconic main concourse, with its ceiling of glittering stars, will likely welcome another icon later this year: a single, glowing white apple. Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials offered a glimpse yesterday morning at the Apple store proposed for the train station, near the terminal’s east staircase. Apple plans to start building the gadget shop immediately, should the agency’s board give its approval Wednesday. Construction is expected to take about four months. Apple is paying Charlie Palmer’s Metrazur restaurant $5 million to vacate its space on the terminal’s east balcony more than eight years before its lease expires. The MTA will get significantly higher annual rent: $1.1 million from Apple vs. $263,997 from Metrazur. In addition to the space currently occupied by Metrazur, Apple will move into an adjacent, currently vacant balcony on the northeast side of the terminal. “It maintains Grand Central as the iconic structure and place that it is,” ...
