Bonnie & Clyde will close on Dec. 30th
Bonnie & Clyde, the composer Frank Wildhorn’s latest bid for Broadway success after several flops, won’t end his unlucky streak. Producers announced today that the show, starring Jeremy Jordan and Laura Osnes, will close on Dec. 30.
After tryouts at two regional theaters, the $6 million musical opened to mixed reviews at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater. Upon its closing, it will have played 69 performances.
After success on Broadway with Jekyll & Hyde, Mr. Wildhorn has seen short runs of his recent shows Wonderland and Dracula. Despite that track record, producers took a chance on Bonnie & Clyde, arguing that its music and promising young stars would help it find an audience.
Mr. Jordan, who earned strong reviews as Clyde, took to social networks to try to drum up support for the show, to no avail. He rehearsed the part while finishing a well-received run of Newsies at Paper Mill Playhouse, a show that has since announced it will move to Broadway in the spring. Whether Mr. Jordan will rejoin the Newsies cast it not yet known.
