Annette Funicello rushed to hospital after house fire

Annette Funicello is one lucky lady. The former lead Mouseketeer was one of three people rushed to the hospital yesterday for possible smoke inhalation after her suburban L.A. house caught fire.

The blaze at the Encino, Calif., home started in the early morning hours and was first reported around 7:21 a.m. Firefighters were quickly on the scene and managed to subdue the flames in about a half-hour.

The 68-year-old Funicello was taken by ambulance to a nearby medical center, along with an unidentified man and woman said to be her husband and nurse. One of the women, believed to be Funicello, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, was in a wheelchair. All three are reportedly in good condition.

No word yet on the cause of the inferno but arson investigators are on the scene.

Before Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera, there was Funicello. She was one of the original and most popular kids in Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Club in 1955. She later recorded a string of late-'50s pop hits before becoming a teen idol in various Beach Party flicks opposite Frankie Avalon in the early 1960s.
