David Archuleta gets dropped from label
File this under: sad and uncalled for. American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta has been dropped by his label, Jive Records, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
While the singer's 2008 self-titled debut album sold nearly a million copies and was certified platinum, Archuleta's latest album, 2010's The Other Side of Down, sold only 67,000 copies as of February 18, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Archuleta first achieved fame via American Idol; the show's finale between Archuleta and winner David Cook drew more than 97 million votes. It was a record...until the next year's showdown between Adam Lambert and Kris Allen, which drew 100 million.
Archuleta tweeted to his fans that he was in good spirits. "Thanks for the support you continue to show! Means a lot. Just wanted to check in [and] let you know things are going where I feel they should," he tweeted.
