Cher Week continues
[Editor's note] Today's installment of Cher Week is arguably one of the most definitive of her career.
With her rock band in toe and surrounded by sailors, Cher made a rock video in every sense of the word. A patriot through and through, Cher proceeded have her way with the US Navy as only she could.
Now without further adieu, the gaytastic video:
In 1989, Cher boarded the USS Missouri wearing a fishnet body stocking, a black one-piece bathing suit and a leather jacket. Her hair was big and her heels were high. Despite where you think this was going, she was there to film the iconic music video for "If I Could Turn Back Time."

The song was an international hit and ushered in a new era for Cher. Seen by many has her comeback, "If I Could Turn Back Time" charted at number 1 in Australia and Norway, number 3 in the United States and number 6 in the United Kingdom. It was also Cher's second consecutive number 1 in the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.
The video also generated a concert-going tradition of sorts. In the video, Cher puts on a sailor's hat and parades around with it. Since then, rabid fans have been taking personalized sailor hats to her concerts and tossing them on stage during the song. I mention this only because I just purchased my contribution yesterday! (See left, bedazzlement to follow).
