Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (An Abba museum)
ArtsBeat reports: To our minds, an Abba theme park should be an experience that’s so ridiculously fun you’re ashamed to tell your friends you actually enjoy it.
The organizers behind Abbaworld, a new museum/theme park dedicated to the lives and work of that best-selling Swedish pop quartet, have something a little more reverential in mind: The Associated Press reported that Abbaworld, scheduled to open in London on Wednesday, will offer 25 rooms and more than 30,000 square feet of Abba-related fare, chronicling the ascent of Bjorn Ulvaeus, Anna-Frid Lyngstad, Benny Andersson and Agnetha Faltskog from their teenage years to the present day.
Amid the displays of silk, satin and spandex costumes, visitors are also promised re-creations of the band’s recording studio and the seaside cabin where Mr. Ulvaeus and Mr. Andersson composed many of the band’s hits; an exhibition that allows aspiring performers to sing and dance alongside an animated version of the band; and an audio guide recorded by Stellan Skarsgard, the Swedish actor who starred in the film version of Mamma Mia!
Magnus Danielsson, the president of Touring Exhibitions, the company behind the museum, told The AP that the guiding principle behind its design was,”How do we give the visitor a big hug in each room?”
